The Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Authority (KADCHMA) has commenced the sensitisation of leaders of informal sectors in the state to increase their enrolment in the scheme.

Abubakar Hassan, Director General of the authority, made the call in an engagement meeting with informal groups to increase the scheme’s enrolment on Wednesday in Kaduna.

He said the meeting was necessary to engage leaders of various groups to further sensitise their members to enrol in the scheme.

Represented by Nenadi Hedima, Team Leader, quality assurance of the agency, Hassan urged the leaders to rally their members to be insured, to assist them by spending less in accessing health care services.

He noted that the scheme was designed to accommodate different classes of people in the society.

Universal health is mandatory for all residents of the state to access affordable quality health care.

Hassan said that measures were put in place to make it possible for not only workers but individuals and vulnerable persons as part of the informal sector.

Kenneth Adagba, state Programme Coordinator, Development Goal International consults (DGI), said the sensitisation was part of measures to ensure that all residents of the state were covered by the health care system, to minimise health challenges beyond their finances.

He said the informal sector suffered more of the health challenges, hence the need to sensitise their leaders, who will talk to their members, to the benefits of the scheme.

“We want to ensure that residents enrol in the scheme not for them to spend their life savings before accessing quality health care.”

Present at the meeting, were leaders of tricycle and motorbikes association, religious leaders, master printers association, market traders association, farmers associations, spare parts dealers, and traditional leaders.
