Jigawa Assembly To Probe Eight Local Councils Over Alleged Financial Irregularities, Abuse Of Office

Eight councils in Jigawa State are expected to face Special Investigative Panel set up by the Jigawa State House of  Assembly over an alleged financial misconduct and abuse of office.
This was disclosed by the House Committee Chairman on Information, Honorable Muhammad Naim Adamu, the  member representing Kafin Hausa Constituency in the state House of Assembly,  while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the House sitting.
He said, the House  received series of complaints and allegations of financial misappropriation against the stated local government councils, stressing that to ensure fair hearing and probity in governance,  the House  set up a special committee under the chairmanship of the member representing Fagam Constituency to investigate the matter.
Hon. Naim noted that the affected local government council include,  Gwuiwa, Kafin Hausa, Guri, Miga, Birnin Kudu, Birniwa and Babura.
The  House  also approved an indefinite suspension of Yankwashi Local Government Council chairman over alleged mischief and spreading false information against the personality of the State All Progressive Congress (APC) Chairman,  Honourable Aminu Ahmed.
He said, the house received a letter of complaint from the APC state chairman against the Yankwashi Local Government Council chairman, who falsely accused him of extorting money to favour some party aspirants.
” To ensure justice, the House has suspended the council chairman and also a committee  set up to investigate the case and submit its report and recommendations”.
In a swift reaction on alleged financial misconduct, one of the council chairman who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the allegation as “political witch hunting.”
He said, ” you know we are in a critical situation now, it is time for everyone to test his popularity, and those who felt they lack public confidence, they can resort to any form of intimidation, coercion and  false allegations to pursue their political agenda.”
