The Vice Chancellor Of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, Professor Kabiru Bala has emphasised that investing on education is very important.
Bala was speaking at a one-day public lecture on higher education and award presentation organized by the National Association of Nigerian Students at ABU Assembly hall.
He said, government has tried very well in providing facilities through intervention.
According to him, for the education system to work, there must be increase in funding.
While challenging the students to fly ABU’s flag anywhere they find themselves and be good ambassadors of ABU, the Vice Chancellor advised them to disregard the call to forget about the degree and focus on skills acquisition.
He said, even though skills acquisition is very important, but skills without proper education is a waste of energy.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the occasion, Engr. Gbenga Komolafe, Chief Executive Officer Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission who was represented by Alh. Garba Salihu Director Exploration, said the commission will continue to support the students.
He explained that many students have benefited from the commission’s support scheme as they approve research topics for students who want to specialised in oil and gas sector.
He announced the donation of N10 million to support the union’s activities.
The theme of the lecture was “Building A Strong Advocacy For Increased Investment in Higher Education”.
Ten personalities were inducted and decorated, while many were honoured with awards of excellence, among whom are, Mr. Wale Editor New Telegraph Newspaper, Director DAC, Prof Musa Abdullahi Mahdi among others.
