The All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on the police in Ondo State, to as a matter of urgency, arrest thugs allegedly harassing its members in Idanre, Idanre Local Government Area of the state.

The party alleged that the thugs were members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), noting that they flagrantly violated the peace accord signed by both APC and PDP House of Representatives Candidates for Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency.

The ruling party expressed this on Friday in a statement signed by Adeboyeku Babatunde, APC Director of Media Campaign Idanre Local Government Area.

The statement reads, “It is a public knowledge that a peace accord meeting was convened in Idanre on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at the instance of the revered paramount ruler of the town.

“The meeting was meant to douse the heightened political tension in Idanre amongst the supporters of APC and PDP House of Representatives candidates. It is a fact that our candidate, Hon. Tajudeen Adefisoye was a signatory to the peace accord just as the PDP House of Representatives candidate equally signed.

“Sadly, just two days after the peace accord was signed in the presence of Ondo State Commissioner for police, PDP thugs in Idanre literally tore same peace accord document into shreds with an unprovoked attack of APC supporter right in front of our House of Representatives candidate’s house.

“Although we are smart enough to know that the sinister motive of the PDP thugs is to provoke us and incite a fresh wave of political violence in Idanre. In spite of this highly provocative attack on our supporter, Idanre APC members will refuse to get incited into any form of violence.

“We want to state for the umpteenth time that Idanre APC is a peace loving party. In line with our philosophy of peaceful politicking, our party will refused to get provoked while the needful will be done to ensure that manifest peace reigns supreme in Idanre Local Government Area.

“Nevertheless, we will call on the leadership of Idanre PDP to as a matter urgency reign-in their hugs immediately and allow peace to reign supreme in our community. Leadership of the opposition party  should also embrace politics of ideas and development without resorting to any form of violence.

“More so, we are also using this medium to call on Ondo State police command to immediately arrest the thugs that attacked an innocent APC supporter right in front of our candidate’s house on Thursday. We will however not hesitate to arrest the thugs on our own and hand them over to the police if the expected needful is not done on time.

“We will continue to advocate issue based politicking in Idanre. We also want to emphasize that our candidate, Hon. Tajudeen Adefisoye is totally committed to the welfare, development and security of the good people of Idanre.
