Humanitarian Crisis Rocks Benue Over High Turnover Of IDPs, SEMA Appeals For Support

Following the renewed attacks on some Benue communities, the State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), has appealed to well spirited individuals and humanitarian partners come to the aide of the state.
New Nigerian Newspapers in Makurdi, reports that following the renewed attacks in some communities, over 14 new camps have sprung up as temporary accommodation to the Internally Displaced Person’s (IDPs), 
Executive Secretary Benue State Emergency Management Agency, BSEMA  Mr James Iorpuu who stated this in Makurdi,  expressed pains over dehumanizing condition of the displaced persons and at Agagbe, Ichwa and Anyiin camps.
He further disclosed that there are new arrivals at camps in Ukum, stressing that some of these IDPs who have ran as a result of fresh attacks from herders and now   occupying Primary and Secondary schools that are available within communities.
The BSEMA boss while explaining that the development has truncated academic calendar of such schools and activities, described hardship as unnecessary and inhuman.
He however,commended Doctors Without Borders for constructing shelters in Ortese and Daudu,as well as drilling boreholes at Ortese, and appealed that they and any other group moved by the humanitarian crisis in Benue should come to the aide of IDPs at Ichwa, Agagbe and Anyiin.
 He equally commended NEMA and other International and Local partners for their various support to the crisis, equally expressed appreciation to governor Hyacinth Alia for always providing logistics support, ” the governor has directed that food and non food relief items be shared to both old the new 14 IDP camps in Ukum, some institutions such as Mama Abayol orphanage home in Makurdi,the special school for the handicapped Vandeikya as well as the rehabilitation center.”
According to him, the governor has directed that 4,200 25kg bags of rice,2,810 bags of beans, 2,370 bags of gari, 4,159 cartons of indomie, 324 gallons of palm oil,191 gallons of G- nut oil, 433 cartons of magi,363 bags of sugar and 366 bags of salt be distributed across the camps.
He also announced that National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has donated some items including rappers,mens and children wears, cooking gas and blankets, adding that 600 units of rappers, 300 mens wears, blankets and mattrasses have already been distributed.
