As Africans commemorate this year’s African Libration Week, Nigerian citizens have been urged to strive hard in the quest to fight against foreign domination, racial discrimination, and exploitation in all its ramifications.

Making the observation, the Jigawa State Contact Person of African Liberation Group, Maryam Ibrahim  an NGO  formed by Chief Kwame Nkrumah a former Ghanian Head of State, aimed at pursuing the determination of African citizens to free themselves from all forms of foreign aggressions, said liberating Africa is now or never.

According to Maryam Ibrahim,  this year’s theme, “Peaceful Co-existence, Dignity and Justice”,  was apt.

She said that the group marks the African Liberation Day yearly.

” It is a day that was founded by late African statesman, Kwame Nkrumah, a former Ghanian Head of State, when he convened the first conference of independent states in Accra, Ghana, that was attended by eight independent African states.

“The day symbolizes the determination of African citizens to free themselves from foreign domination and exploitation, which can be traced down to May 1963. 31 African heads of states  converged to launch the Organization of African Unity (OAU),” she recalled.

Addressing school pupils on advocacy visits, she  charged students to be  patriotic,  disciplined, hard working and tolerant to each another.

“As  leaders of tomorrow, we are calling on you pupils to embrace peace against unnecessary violence and desist from all acts of exploitation and domination as well as all forms of racial discrimination at all times,” she stressed.

According to her, this year’s theme calls on the citizens to focus attention and deliberately embrace peaceful coexistence, dignity and justice.

“We are expected to extend love amongst ourselves and neighbours, be patriotic at all times as well to exhibit tolerance to each other’s religion, culture for the sustainance of peaceful co-existence amongst ourselves,” she charged.

The convener of this year’s occasion was under the auspices of Save Nigeria Now,   a Non governmental organization established on March 23, 2020,   working around health, education and livelihood in a bid to advocate for decent living for all with a fulfilled life of respect to human dignity.
