Governor Emmanuel Slams Port Harcourt Electric Over Uncooperative Efforts

The Akwa Ibom State Government has expressed displeasure over attempts by the Port Harcourt Electricity distribution Company (PHED) to frustrate its vision of providing power for all and sundry in the state by the year 2022.Commissioner for Information and Strategy in the state, Comrade Ini Ememobong made this known while briefing journalists on the outcome of the week’s State Executive Council meeting held at Exco Chambers of government house, Uyo on Monday.
To ensure positive impact, Comrade Ememobong said that the state governor Udom Emmanuel has directed the Ministry of Power to urgently take steps to cause the PHED to rise towards ensuring  realisation of the programme.
Government’s position fellowed a report presented to the Governor by the Commissioner for Power and Petroleum Development, Mr. John Etim at the State Executive Council meeting on Monday in Uyo.
Etim had briefed Governor Emmanuel of the challenges posed by PHED to the actualisation of the state government power for all programme by 2022.
The uncooperative disposition of the Power Company as described by the Commissioner, is in

spite of the huge investment of the state government in the power sector.
“The report on the activation of Power for all programme was presented by the HC-Power and Petroleum Development. He highlighted the challenge posed by PHEDC’s uncooperative disposition. 
“Council directed that the Ministry of Power and Petroleum Development should immediately take steps to get PHEDC to provide power for citizens of the State, taking into cognizance the huge investment in the sector by the state,” Ememobong stated.
Ememobong also said that the state government had approved for more power sub -stations to be constructed in the state next year.
The Governor also approved a critical deliberations for a full digitisation of the civil and public service for optimum service delivery in the state.
