Following the excruciating economic pains currently being experienced by the people of Imo state, a renowned politician and academic in the state, professor George Chukwunyere Ezeji has observed that the state governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha has not been sincere with Imo people on how he has been running the state.
According to him, “though there is general economic downturn in the country, the case of Imo state, was extraordinary”.
The frontline politician, who bared his mind in a chat with journalists in Owerri, also observed that the people of the state are not having the impact of all the revenue accruable to the state.
He expressed fear that with the present look of things, if the situation is not checked, it may lead to the breakdown of law and order, and as such lead to the increase of various crimes.
Prof. Ezeji called on the state governor to properly account for the revenue so far received on behalf of the people.
Also lending his voice to this, another politician in the state, Chief Nnamdi Durumaku of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), noted that since the inception of the second term of Governor Okorocha, the sufferings of the people had become more, pointing out that this was as a result of the deceit by the present administration.
He said “now in Imo state, particularly in Owerri, the state capital, business activities are at a standstill due to lack of money in circulation”.
Chief Duruamaku, observed that most of the products, like public buildings built, by the present administration were of no economic value to the people of the state.
In their separate comments, some traders in the market complained of lack of patronage because of bad economic situation in the state.
They urged the state government to do something tangible to alleviate the present economic hardship the people are facing.
According to them, the government should create more job opportunities in practical terms and not on paper and radio stations in the state.
