The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has made a passionate appeal to the federal and Kaduna State governments to  improve on cycling tracks on roads in the state and NIgeria.

The call was made by the Zonal Commanding Officer, RS1, Kaduna, ACM Godwin Omiko during the flagging off of activities to mark the United Nations World Bicycle Day 2022 at the Ministry of Sports Development, Kaduna State Secretariat on Thursday June 2.

“Therefore, we call on government both at State and federal level to help improve cycling tracks so that people can have more convenience on our   roads,” he said.

He described this year’s theme: “Cycling For Earth And Humanity” as apt as it seeks to address challenges caused by motorised transportation across the world.

“We are gathered to commemorate the 2022 World Bicycle Day as a means to improving our health as well as embracing non motorises transport

“The theme talks about the benefits cycling brings to the earth and humanity.

“We all know of  the carbon emissions and what it does to the ozone layer.

“When we have less carbon emissions we breathe better, our plants are better and we eat healthy food,” he said.

While listing out the health benefits of cycling, he said that they remain the best way to a safer humanity in all ramifications.

“You exercise yourself, your body is healthy, you also exercise your brain.

“When we reduce motorisation from the environment, we breathe better, our lungs are healthier.

“We would have free flow of traffic and minimal crashes on our roads,” he added.

The Sector Commander therefore, urged all Nigerians to embrace cycling as a safe means of transportation.

“So I want to call on all of us to embrace cycling. I want all of us to participate in this year’s rally.

We should also endeavour to ride on the right side of the road.

“We will ride from here to NTA, from there, we round up at the ministry of transport. That would be our route,” he said.
