Barring any last minute changes, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kaduna Command has concluded necessary logistic arrangements to commence a 24 hour patrol within the city metropolitan areas.
This was disclosed by the State Sector commander Kabiru Yusuf Nadabo while on a courtesy visit at Nigeria Union Of Journalists (NUJ) Kaduna State Council on Wednesday August 9, 2023.
He said the round the clock patrol, especially after nightfall, would checkmate unruly drivers with road unworthy vehicles on transit through the city, whose risky and dangerous driving could endanger other road users.
“The danger of having vehicles without serviceable and proper headlights on our highways at night cannot be overemphasized due to the disaster they could cause.
“I will roll out my men to ensure the city metropolitan areas and environs are adequately patrolled to avert possible road crash as a result of flouting safety rules and regulations so that highways within the state metropolis are made safe for users,” he declared.
The sector commander reiterated his resolve to partner with members of the press to educate and enlighten the public on safety management, rules and regulations of using the highways, the need for safe driving and ensuring automobiles are roadworthy.
“I am here to build and solidify good relationship and sustainable synergy with Journalists in the state so they will spread the message and gospel of safety to the general public.
“The menace of road crash and the devastating consequences it poses on our populace cannot be adequately curtailed without the inputs and contribution of the Media and members of the press.
“We will be pleased to have you as partners in progress in the fight against dangerous and risky driving that has been taking the lives of our dear ones,” he stated.
He called on members of the public, particularly drivers who may have been unlawfully treated to report their travails through the proper channel such as the media.
“I won’t hesitate to apply disciplinary action against any erring officer under my command who has been found wanting by using their uniforms to oppress and exploit drivers.
“And the drivers on their part must ensure they comply with rules and regulations of using the highways and other public roads by making sure their vehicles are in good shape and road worthy condition,”he emphasized.
“I have identified about 29 junctions which could be described as hot spots within the metropolis which need adequate measures taken to prevent frequent crashes of vehicles around these spots.
“It saddens my heart having to receive unfortunate stories, an average of 180 in month on highways within my jurisdiction.
“I intend to replicate my Sokoto success story in Kaduna and leave an indelible mark worthy of emulation by my successors, thus my resolve to carry all stakeholders along, the media in particular so that together We can achieve our ultimate goals of eliminating avoidable accidents on our roads, “he added.
On her part, Chairman NUJ Kaduna State Council Comrade Asma’u Yawo Halilu commended the Sector Commander for extending a hand of partnership to the council, adding that journalists in the state would ensure they contribute their quota in the crusade for safe driving and aggressive sensitization of the pubic on safety.
