Governor Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State has inaugurated a 21-man state committee on flood, with a task to finding a lasting solution to the frequent flooding as a means to endinh the natural calamity.
Speaking during the inauguration, Governor Badaru stated, “your task is to identify the remote causes of the lingering menace and to advise government on possible steps to be adopted in bringing it to an end.
“Your schedule will encompass taking stock on the extent of damage incurred, comprehensive number of affected victims, mode of distribution of palliatives out of the donated relief materials by both state and federal government to be shared among victims, the mode of establishing the flood fund raising, which will be used as contingency in taking care of flood disaster issues in future, as well as proffering solutions on ways to curtail the natural calamity.”
The committee, headed by the “Wazirin Dutse”, Barrister Alh. Bashir Dalhatu is saddled with the responsibility of identifying worst hit area councils, actual census of those worst affected by the disaster and possible means of bringing succour to them in form of sharing the earlier donated federal and state relief materials, resettlement of victims to a more habitual environment and proffering solution on how to end flooding in Jigawa State.
Responding, the committee’s chairman, Barrister Bashir Dalhatu pledged on behalf of other members, their readiness to uphold the noble task with all sense of responsibility to the best of their ability, assuring to be fair and just in the discharge of their assignment.
“We promise to offer our best, provided we will be supported adequately with sufficient funds to render our services, financially and logistically,” he averred.
Members of the committee include, representatives from the five emirate councils in Jigawa State, Alh. Isa Gerawa, Comrade Musbahu Basurka representing NGO’s, a member each from the council of Ulamas, and Architect Aminu Kani.
Others are Senator Muhammad Sabi Nakudu, Senator Danladi Sankara, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, Honorable Dr. Abubakar Fulata, Alh Ali Madobi, Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Kemba, among other’s.
The committee has eight weeks within which to submit its report.
