Ex- Generals Call For Continuous Loyalty, Selflessness, Creativity From Serving Personnel

As the Nigerian military continues to battle insurgency to a standstill, personnel of the Nigerian Army have been charged to maintain continuous loyalty, selflessness and demonstrate total commitment to the security of the nation.

They were also urged to be more creative and extra vigilant as they record successes in the fight against terrorism and insurgency across the country.

A former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen. Alexander Ogomudia (rtd) and Major Gen. Ademoh Salihu gave the admonition at the Pulling Out Ceremony of Retired Senior Officers of the Nigerian Army Signals Corps, held at the Nigerian Army School of Signals on Friday.

Speaking In a chat with journalists at the occasion, the former CDS  asserted that what the personnel needed at this critical time is focus, discipline, lioyalty and selflessness in service.

Ogomudia applauded the resilience of the troops in battling insurgency, saying they are doing their best.

His words, “There is no basis for comparison because we served at both different timing, challenges are different and resources available are different. They are doing their best in the situation they find themselves. But want is required is that you must be focused, you must be disciplined, loyalty is needed, you must believe in the Army and be selfless in service”.

In his remarks at the occasion, Major Gen. Salihu, who is the Special Guest of Honour pointed out that the retiring senior officers are retiring at a time the nation is facing diverse security challenges, adding that the challenges placed a very high demand on the Nigerian Army.

He therefore implored them to continue to be loyal, creative and extra vigilant and demonstrate total commitment to the security of the nation.

” We are leaving the service at a time when the nation is beset with diverse security challenges. These challenges have necessitated several kinetic operations that have placed a very high demand on the Nigerian Army. 

” Consequently, I admonish serving military personnel to continue to be loyal, creative and extra vigilant. You must continue to demonstrate total commitment to the security of the Nation just as you have exemplified in the successes recorded in the fight against terrorism/insurgency in the North East and other parts of the country. Nigerians, especially we the retirees are expecting a lot from you.

Also speaking at the event, the Chief host and Commander  Corps Signal Major General  Garba Abdullahi commended the retired officers for their selfless service to the nation and for leaving the service with clean record.

The retired officers are Maj. Gen. A.A Salihu, Maj. Gen. EO Nze, Maj. Gen. R. C Duru,  Maj. Gen. JA Orokpo,  Maj. Gen. F.O Agugo, Maj. M Mohammed, Maj. Gen. CT Olukoju, Maj.Gen. I.O Rabiu, Maj.Gen E.B Kabuk, Maj. Gen. E.G Whyte, Maj. Gen. A.O Uthman and Maj.Gen. A.Adamu.

Others are Brig. Gen. LYM Hassan, Brig. E

B Etuk, Brig. Gen. I.M Raji, Brig. Gen. E.J Ebong, Brig.Gen. PTO Aro, Brig. A.I Adedigba, Brig. Gen. P.U Ashim, Brig. Gen. D.A Adeyemi,  Brig. Gen. S.C Ogbuanya, Brig. Gen. T.O Unokhua and Brig. Gen. M.Abdullahi.

The polling out ceremony is a customary event held in honour of retiring Senior Officers who have served  the country meritoriously and contributed immensely to the peace and general development of the country.
