Survivors of the Calalbar Viewing Centre  have been compensated as the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) donated drugs, cash as well other items to cushion the effect of their plight while still receiving treatment at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH).
It would be recalled that about 7 persons were electrocuted while several others suffered various forms of injury during the unfortunate incident in Calabar.
Making the donation, the Regional Manager of the company, Mr Joseph Aikowe, said the gesture was to fulfill the promise made by the Group Managing Director when he visited the victims in the hospital.
He said the cash donation, was for the patients’ feeding.
Other items donated includes honey, beverages, gloves, bottles of water and standing fans.
Aikowe said, “we are here to make some donations to the hospital management which will be transmitted to the patients for the good and wellbeing of the patients”.
According to him ” we are aware that the state government has promised to offset the bills, but as a responsible organization, we felt it was necessary for us to play a part in alleviating the sufferings of the people affected during incident”.
Chief Medical Director of UCTH, Dr Thomas Agan, appreciated the gesture and promised to ensure that the items were fully used to the benefit of the patients.
