The Neurosurgery department in David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital, Uburu set another milestone record on Sunday, after successfully performing a burr hole surgery at the hospital.

The timely intervention was carried out to save two critical patients who were at the point of death on arrival.

The historical procedure which was complemented by the Theatre and Surgery Department and their team of nurses, had Dr. Akwada Obioma as the lead Neurosurgeon.

A burr hole drainage procedure allows a doctor to drill holes in the skull to relieve pressure from fluid or blood build-up which can compress the brain tissue and which can lead to damage and death.

Meanwhile, both patients are in stable conditions and gradually recuperating.

DUFUTH is progressing speedily and steadily, and we won’t renege in setting the standard in medical excellence.
