The member representing Kaduna South Federal Constituency, Hon. Mukhtar Ahmed has thrown his weight behind the adoption of direct primaries by the National Assembly despite the opposition by state governors.
He was speaking to journalists while welcoming thirteen councillors from Kaduna South Local Government Area who came on a working visit to the National Assembly on Monday, 22 November 2021.
He said, “My take is that I want direct primaries because it is like taking democracy to the grassroots and allowing people to decide who the want”.
He further added that”Democracy Is about involvement and choosing people who should represent us should be done by not only only party members by all have interest .
Speaking further, he said the main purpose of the visit was for the law makers at the local government to learn the rudiments of lawmaking so that they can make use the knowledge learnt
