Residents of Kakuri, a Kaduna industrial layout have lauded the federal government for tarring a one kilometer access road linking the community with a trunk B suburban carriage.

The road is  constructed by Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development as part of its rural programme to open up inner cities through motorable roads.

Residents said the initiative would  stimulate socio-economic activities for growth and development of the area which they noted hitherto had affected smooth movement of goods and people.

A cross section of road users, particularly operators of commercial tricycle and motorcycle lauded the newly tarred road, saying the rural development project would go a long way in making their job of transporting goods and persons easier.

A tricycle operator,Tanimu Yakubu disclosed that the new asphaltic road would help in making his job of fending for his family and dependants easier and enjoyable.

“Before now , many of us used to avoid plying this part with passengers because of bad and deplorable nature of the roads here which caused damages to our machines especially, the tyres and shock absorbers.

“We preferred to take a longer route, the Bus Stop and Air force Junction before making a detour of a supposed trip of approximately 10 minutes in 15 or even  more, consuming our scarce fuel in the process.

“With this good development, our people have been commending this kind initiative of the federal government which we believe will go a long way in putting smiles on faces of residents of Makera and Kakuri, “he stated.

A commercial motorcycle operator who simply identified himself as Joshua Sule thumbed the  road as New Year’s gift to the people of Kakuri and Makera from the federal government, adding that the development had made the place  and areas around the road busy.

“The road has revived economic and human activities around the KTL, down to Galadimawa which is one of the most important routes in Makera.

“Road users going to Barnawa, Down Quarters, Old Artillery Barracks and other areas with proximities to Kakuri Market, particularly tricycles transporting passengers to Central Market can now breathe a sigh of relief with this road which is the shortest distance to the destinations, “he suggested.

A resident, Kabiru Ubale spoke in a similar vein, calling the fully asphaltic road a 2023 gift to Kakuri people.

He however expressed regret that the KTL portion of the road was constructed without a drainage, absence of which he noted would expose the shoulder and surface of asphalt to harsh rains during wet season.

“We would have wanted a complete job done on this road to give it a long life span so our people will enjoy it maximally.

“Tarred roads without an effective drainage system cannot stand the test of weather and harsh conditions, “he opined.

Another resident who owns a neighborhood shop commended the construction of the road, adding that it would save her cost of transportation which she incurred as a result of taking a longer route to move heavy goods from the Central Market.

She called on the state government to finish the abandoned United Bus stop Road which was done halfway.

“That uncompleted road is seriously causing a lot of pains to our people who have to go through the Air force road instead of simply pass through the Nigeria Brewery to their destinations, “she said.

Our correspondent observed a sharp increase in the number of people using the road by foot, automobiles, tricycles and other means of movement since the road was constructed and open for use in the first week of January 2023.
