Long queues have reduced in Kano city and some local government branches of the commercial banks as a result of the directive given to all commercial banks to operate during weekends by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Our correspondent who monitored the activities of the banks in Kano city and some branches at the local government areas, reports that almost all the banks in the city opened on Saturday on compliance to the apex bank’s order.
On Saturday, almost all the commercial banks in Kano city opened where the queues as spotted by New Nigerian reduced, especially when customers withdrew money without obstacles, while the over the counter transactions were successful, which is a clear indication that the CBN directive to open banks at weekends made great impact to the provision of cash to people across the country.
Our correspondent reports that yesterday, branches of First Bank and Unity Bank at Dambatta, Bauchi and Kura local government areas opened for business.
Customers said that the CBN directive to operate at the weekend has eased the sufferings of the people needing cash for daily expenses, while some of them called on the Central Bank to make more cash available to banks to reduce suffering.
