The people of Mfum community in the border area with the Republic of Cameroon are now living in fear following the alleged killing of a Nigerian fisherman from the community.
Reports reaching the New Nigerian Online said “two others were seriously wounded from gun shots from the Cameroonian soldiers”.
The fisherman name withheld was shot dead by Cameroonian soldiers at the Mfum border at weekend while he and his colleagues were returning from fishing exercise.
It would be recalled that the Mfum border has been the target of the Cameroonian soldiers recently following the crisis that had befallen the country for over a year ago.
Over 30,000 Cameronian refugees are been harboured by the people of Mfum and other border communities in Cross River state.
This ugly development might? not unconnected with the aftermath of the continuous onslaught against separatists in the Republic of Cameroon.
Eyewitnesses account said the community experienced an unprecedented sporadic shooting which lasted for about 3 hours  targeted at the Nigerian side across the over 100 metre wide river.
Therefore  leaders of thought in the community are calling on the Nigerian government to take appropriate action before the soldiers could cross over to Nigeria to cause more havoc on the people.
