Director, Publicity and Advocacy, Northern Elders Forum, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has insisted that voting in President Muhammadu Buhari in the first instance was a big mistake.Baba-Ahmed expressed this, while fielding questions from newsmen on the sidelines of the Meeting of Northern Leaders of Thought at the Arewa House, Kaduna on Saturday January 15, 2022.
In view of that, he was of the view that whoever would be voted into power in 2023 should have a team in place to hit the ground running once sworn-in.He explained that Nigeria would be in for a ride if it takes six months for a president to name his team.Speaking further, he described as unpatriotic and undemocratic, the calls by a group from the south, demanding that all political parties field only southern candidates ahead of the 2023 presidential polls.
He wondered how an entire region would be.left out from the ballots, while such parties would be expecting votes from the North.Baba-Ahmed however, advised the electorate to only vote for credible candidates who are competent and can lead NIgeria out of the woods, while clarifying that the Northern Elders Forum will not tell them who to vote, but can only advise.
