The Governing Board of Zaria Metropolitan Authority (ZMA) has been inaugurated by the Commissioner/Administrator, Balaraba Aliyu Inuwa.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony at Kongo Conference Hotel, Zaria, the Administrator, Balaraba Aliyu Inuwa said the metropolitan authorities was created to cope with the massive population, explosion that is characteristic of most urban cities.
Also, the establishment of the metropolitan is designed to ensure service delivery.
According to her, the metropolitan was not created to take over the kocal government statutory function by the law, but to support them in their service delivery.
Balaraba further said ZMA functions have been specified that has to do with urban renewal and development.
The ZMA consists of Zaria, Sabon Gari, Soba and Giwa local government areas
In his remarks, the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli expressed confidence that the calibre of members in the board will deliver the desired goals set on the metropolitan authorities.
He said even though the board is not among the 3 tiers of government nor an area development council, it is an administrative structure to manage the metropolitan area covering four local government areas.
Emir Bamalli noted that already Kaduna has developed, but wants Zaria to be far developed than the state capital.
