Bauchi Interventions In Education Reflects Positively On Girl-Child, Says Commissioner

Efforts are being made by the Bauchi state government to provide financial and other logistics support for the promotion of girl-child education in the state.
The commissioner of education, Dr. Aliyu Tilde expressed delight that the sector has received many interventions that have reflected positively in the lives of children of school age.
At the formal opening Sunday of a four-day training for 50 girl-child selected from six LGAs of the state, Tilde drew the attention of stakeholders in the sector to invest more in girl-child education for sustainable socio-economic development.
Represented by Sa’adatu Usman Mohammed, the commissioner said that the state government attaches significance to girl-child education, hence its resolve to prioritizes it.
Tilde explained that sending girl-child to hawk on the street or giving them out for marriage endangers their future and their transition from childhood to adulthood.
The training which is a collaboration between Bauchi SUBEB and UNICEF Bauchi Field Office has the theme ‘Digital Generation’ coming on the wheels of the International Day of the Girl-child, to expose the girls to the use of digital technology.
It is also geared to put the girls in the right frame of mind, acquire digital skills, and help them be aware of their rights to education, its benefits, and the need to be enrolled, retrained, and complete basic education.
Also speaking, Bauchi SUBEB Chairman, Dr. Abubakar Sirimbai Sheikh Dahiru has in a remark restated the commitment of the board to providing qualitative basic education in the state.
Sirimbai, who was represented by the director of school services, Alhaji Korijo Umar, commended the support and cordial working relationship between SUBEB and UNICEF, assuring that the board will continue to give priority to girl-child education in the state.
UNICEF Desk Officer in the SUBEB, Halima Umar has on her part, gave the LGAs from where the training participants were drawn as Bauchi, Alkaleri, Ganjuwa, Shira, Ningi and Toro.
Hajiya Halima Umar explained that investing in girl-child education would help to guarantee a brighter future for the girls and their communities.
The desk officer said the aim of the training is to promote the right of girl-child globally through girl-child digital revolution and generation in order to bridge the gender gap.
She noted that in 2013 the gap was 13 percent, in 2017 the gap rose to 17% in advanced countries, but in Nigeria the gap is 43 percent, hence the need for more support to women, especially girl-child as part of the efforts to bridge the gap.
