A former Secretary to Ebonyi State Government, Prof. Benard Odoh has emerged unopposed in the just concluded APGA primary elections, while Honourable Charles Alieze secured ticket to represent Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency in the 2023 general elections in the state.
The primary election which took place in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, witnessed high turnout of party stalwarts, delegates and stakeholders from different parts of the state, including officials of INEC who converged on the party secretariat for the election.
Announcing the results, the Chairman of APGA Governorship primary election committee in Ebonyi State, Dr. Olalere Samson stated that Prof. Benard Odoh scored 513 votes to emerge overall winner of the APGA gubernatorial primaries, describing it as the most peaceful, free and fair election, urging all members of the party to remain resolute in advancing the ideal principles of the party.
Also speaking, the state chairman of the party in Ebonyi, Hon. Richy Okorouka noted that the party has always imbibed the principle of internal democracy to give everybody sense of belonging and never allows imposition of candidates during election.
“Today was the primary election for Governorship, Senate, House of Representatives amongst others in the various constituencies in Ebonyi State.
“It has been conducted, it was peaceful. You know APGA is a platform of love. And we have always imbibed the principles of internal democracy in everything we do.
“And that is why today, people have decided to align with us to be able to achieve their political goals.
“In various political parties, a lot of abnormalities have been in place.
“That is one of the reasons most of the political strong men in Ebonyi state have decided to leave the party.
“Lack of the principle of internal Democracy is all the problems in various political parties. Where there are of candidates, they don’t follow due process as against the APGA ideology.”
For Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal constituency in the fourth coming National Assembly election, Hon. Charles Alieze, secured the ticket under the platform of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).
Hon. Alieze emerged the party’s consensus candidate for Ebonyi/Ohaukwu federal constituency in the just concluded APGA primary election.
Alieze emerged consensus candidate following the withdrawal of the main aspirant weeks before the primaries.
The election was conducted under the supervision of the state chairman of APGA, Hon. Richy Okorouka; the secretary and INEC officials as well as the the returning officers who announced the Charles Alieze as the winner.
In their acceptance speeches, Prof. Benard Odoh and Hon.Charles Alieze said that their emergence would spur them to deliver democratic dividends to the people, adding that they are not going to derail in their responsibilities.
They equally commended the party delegates for their massive support and solidarity in ensuring that the election was peaceful pledging to justify the confidence reposed on them.
“I urge all of us to join hands together in the struggle to give our party, APGA the desired victory at the 2023 general elections,’’ they said.
