The newly posted Commissioner of Police to Akwa Ibom State, CP Waheed Ayilara has stated that he would not compromise his primary goal of fostering a safe and secure environment for every resident, warning that no criminals would have freedom to perpetuate crime anywhere in the state.
CP Ayilara stated this on Monday, in his maiden address at the command’s headquarters Ikot Akpan Abia on assumption of duty in the state.
He emphasized that the command under his watch would ensure
visibility policing, periodic Intelligence led raids of blackspots/criminal hideouts, just as discreet and prompt investigation/prosecution of culprits would also be ensured.
“To the criminals and their collaborators in the State, I am using this medium to prevail on you all to pack your luggage and relocate from the State. It is not going to be business as usual. We shall take the battle to your hideouts and deny you freedom of action anywhere in the State.
“Visibility Policing, Periodic Intelligence led raids of blackspots/criminal hideouts, Rejuvenation of the Commands’ Tactical Operations Units, discreet and prompt investigation/prosecution of culprits.” CP Ayilara declared.
He also announced other strategies the command will use to contain criminal activities in the state to include effective traffic control and management, establishment of a robust result oriented synergy with communal and other non-state actors and mobilization of the mass media as watchdog of the society.
The new Police Boss on the other hand, cautioned the officers and men of the command against unprofessional conduct but to always show professionalism in the discharge of their duties in the state in order to earn respect and integrity to the police command as well public trust.
“I promise that under my watch, I will be hard on deviants within the fold of the State Command who continually bring us into disrepute and pitch us against the citizens we are paid to serve and protect. Such elements are encouraged to embrace the tenets of self-discipline in the common good or be ready to face the consequences. An undisciplined officer is a threat not only to the policing family but to the community and the State he serves
He declared collaboration and cooperation with the military and other law enforcement Agencies, stressing, “Our joint efforts will not only enhance the security landscape but also build resilient network capable of addressing the diverse challenges we may encounter.”
To the citizens and residents of the state, CP Ayilara declared, “I am here to assure you that my commitment to the security and safety of the people of Akwa Ibom State is unwavering. Together, we will build on the lessons learned and the successes achieved, fostering a policing approach that is both effective and community-driven. The challenges we may face will be met with resilience, innovation, and a shared dedication to upholding the ideals of justice and security
