All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) Kaduna State Chapter has flagged off the sales and distribution of fertilizer for the 2023 farming season.
Performing the ceremony in Zaria, the state chairman, Alhaji Nuhu Aminu said the commodity will be sold on loan to farmers to alleviate their financial burden.
He said the timely distribution of the fertilizer for this year’s cropping season is aimed at boosting agriculture and ensuring food security in the state and beyond, while creating wealth and providing employment opportunities for the teeming youth.
The chairman said he will ensure that the commodity reaches its intended beneficiaries, while explaining that his leadership has put in place an effective framework for the sales and distribution of fertilizers across all the 23 local governments of the state to ensure that the commodity reaches the real farmers at the grassroots.
Nuhu Aminu said his leadership is mindful of the high price of fertilizers in the market which adversely affects the farmers and reduces the overall contribution of the sector in the economic development of the state.
“We understand that the high cost of fertilizer and other farm implements can be a significant barrier to our farmers. That’s why we are working diligently to make these essential inputs available to alleviate the financial burden on our farmers.
” Our aim is to empower our farmers with the essential resources to enhance crop yields, improve soil fertility, increase profitability, and achieve sustainable agricultural practices”. He said.
He cautioned them against diversion or any form of mismanagement of the commodity.
The chairman said 200 farmers will benefit from each local government area with five bags of assorted fertilizer.
Some beneficiaries of the fertilizer loan scheme, Hajiya Jummai Abubakar, Malama Hauwa Usman from Giwa Local Government Area and Umar Musa, Kabir Ahmad from Kudan Local Government Area respectively, expressed happiness over the gesture done to farmers by AFAN Kaduna State Chapter.
They assured of the judicious use of the commodities given to them to enable them pay back when due.
