Amidst controversy over the All Progressives Congress (APC) Muslim – Muslim Presidential ticket, the Concerned Yoruba Muslim Scholars in Nigeria (CONYORMS) on Monday, said that Nigerians should stop complaining.
President General of the body, Shayk Abdulrasheed Mayaleke gave the advice while addressing a press conference in Ibadan
According to Shayk Mayaleke the complaints over the APC Muslim – Muslim Presidential candidacy is of no basis, saying the organisation was shocked by the various opposition that trailed the choice of Senator Kashim Shettima as the Vice Presidential running mate to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu
” The Concerned Yoruba Muslim Scholars in Nigeria are alarmed at the hypocritical public outcry by some section of Christian leaders and followers against the choice of Senator Kashim Shettima as running mate to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for 2023 presidential election”, he said.
Shayek Mayaleke added, ” unfortunately, people who are supposed to be a moral guide for a united and prosperous nation have now become agents of the opposition party just for a miserable price.
“We are greatly shocked at the height of the prejudice being expressed by opposition parties masquerading under different names or groups. It is therefore compelling to remind and enlighten well-meaning Nigerians about the potential of these great candidates who are of unassailable competencies”.
The CONYORMS President General pointed out that former governor of Osun state, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola who is a Christian had Christian deputy in person of Erelu Olusola Obada and the Muslims in the state did not complain and that Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti who is a Christian also had a Christian deputy in Ekiti and that the governor elect in Ekiti state, Biodun Abayomi Oyebamiji, who is a Christian also had Christian deputy.
“Akeredolu who is a Christian had Christian deputy in Ondo, Oyinlola who is also a Christian has a Christian deputy in Osun and the Muslims did not complain. Osun is a Muslim dominated state and the Muslims did not complain at that time.
“Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti who is a Christian also had a Christian deputy in Ekiti. The governor elect in Ekiti state, Biodun Abayomi Oyebamiji, who is a Christian also had Christian deputy”.
He stressed further, ” are we saying that there are no Muslims in those states? So, why are we complaining of Muslim-Muslim ticket. The politicians know what they want. People should not complain.
Speaking further, he said CONYORMS finds it imperative to assert that the choice of Senator Shettima as the running mate to Tinubu is most appropriate and well deserved, and that ” at this juncture, Concerned Yoruba Muslim Scholars of Nigeria find it imperative to assert that the choice of Kashim Shettima as the running mate to Tinubu is most appropriate and well deserved”.
The press conference was also attended by Professor Abideen Olaiya, Dr. Daud Amoo Alaga, Sheikh Abdulfatai Sanni, Barristers Abdulwaheed Olowonjaye and Abdulganiy Sahid Olaide.
