The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Police Command, CP Olatoye Durosinmi has warned against the activities of political saboteurs in the state, saying anyone caught shall be made to face the law.

CP Durosinmi gave the warning in a statement  signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Odiko MacDon on Sunday  in Uyo.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police is dismayed and miffed at the attitude of some political stakeholders, especially as it pertains to the 2023 general elections campaigns.

To take care of what the commissioner has noted as not a true reflection of what acceptable democratic tenets stands for, a special monitoring team has been set up where offenders should be ready to face the music.

“Some unscrupulous persons have left the acceptable norms of politics and are now involved in campaigns of calumny, destruction and defacing of opponents billboards and posters. This is not a true reflection of what acceptable democratic tenets stand for.

“The trend the CP notes, cannot be allowed to become a new normal.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Commissioner of Police has set up a Special Monitoring Team, saddled with the responsibilities of identifying, arresting and prosecuting those behind these undemocratic acts.

“The CP has however, assured all political parties and stakeholders of a level playing ground and has warned those involved in these acts of political sabotage to desist forthwith,” the statement said.

It would be recalled that there have been reports of campaigns of calumny, destruction and defacing of opponents billboards and posters by some political paid groups in the state with opposition parties counting losses on weekly basis.

Accusations therefore, have been on the ruling party in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which in all instances has denied knowledge.

The action by the Police is therefore, considered as timely to avert unpleasant occurrence due to the condemnable act of these political saboteurs. Mrs. Imaobong Akpan, an observer in the state has reasoned.
