The Youth Movement for Good Governance (YMGG), has opined that the Senate President of the 10th Assembly be zoned to the Northwest region following its contribution and commitment to the success of the APC in the presidential election.
The Convener of the movement, Aminu Haruna Maipampo, in a statement, noted that there are agitations and arguments that the South-East be favoured for the Senate President in the interest of fairness, equity and justice, saying, “the North West would be marginalized if not given the leadership of the upper chamber, despite its contribution and commitment to the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just concluded Presidential election.”
He called on the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone the position of the Senate President of the 10th Assembly to the North West zone of the country, stressing that the region has been a major player in ensuring the party emerges the winner of the 2023 general elections in the country.
According to him, “the movement maintained that the North West deserved the nation’s Senate Presidency in the interest of fairness, equity and justice in the country.”
Since the ruling party took over power in 2015, he explained that the North West zone has been a major player in the success and vigour of maintaining the party wins elections at all levels in the country.
According to him, the Zone has never produced the president nor deputy president of the Senate in the past despite its role in maintaining stability in the red chamber, stressing it is only proper that the zone be allowed to produce the next Senate President in the 10th National Assembly.
He believes that the North West being the largest zone in the country in terms of population, has suffered the worst form of insecurity and poverty, pointing out that it may not be unconnected it lacked adequate representation in the nation’s legislative hierarchy.
