The Nigeria Customs Service Ogun State Command said it has generated the sum of five Billion Seven Hundred and Seventeen Million ,Seven Hundred and Thirty Six Thousand, Two Hundred and Forty Naira and Thirty Eighty Kobo(5,717,736,240,38) within the period of eleven months (January to November 2017 )to the Federation Account.
The Controller of the command, Comptroller Sanni Madugu stated this while briefing news men at Idiroko border areas of Ogun state.
According to him, 777 seizures were made while 500vehivles were also intercepted by the command within the period under review .
He disclosed further that total paid value of all seized goods was #1,420,321,574 kobo adding that ,within 7 days (December 6 –12) the command seized 1,305 bags of smuggled foreign rice worth of 12,699,00,117 kegs of vegetable oil valued #702,000 , 20 bags of sugar with duty paid vale of #144,000 and 10 sacks of used shoes worth #300,000.
He gave the duty paid value of all the arrested goods within last one week to be #39,305,100.
Madugu however ,warned smugglers to find a lawful mean of making business as the Customs is more prepared and ready to assist them to facilitate legitimate businesses.
According to him, the Customs headquarters has posted more officers to the command and there will be no more room for smugglers to operate.
I am using this means to warn smugglers to go through legalise and approved route to import rice and other goods because Ogun state would no longer be conducive for them to operate.
“Yes let them be inform that Ogun State will no longer be conducive for Smugglers because we now have enough staff strength to man all routes so, Ogun state will be hot for them. Ogun satw has been declared no go area for smugglers”Madugu said.
Explaining why the smugglers persist to smuggle goods, Madugu said that they made lot of money up to #600,000 monthly even more than what a. University graduate could achieve.
