Niger: Chanchaga LG Takes Healthcare Closer To The People, Engages 11 Doctors

As part of it’s drive to bringing quality healthcare delivery services to citizens, the administration in Chanchaga Local Government Area of Niger State has said that it has engaged the services of 11 medical doctors to oversee its local healthcare centres across the council area.
Chairman of the Council, Mr. Yusuf Inuwa Fukka said the council is concerned about the shortage of qualified medical doctors in its healthcare centres hence the move to close up the yearning gulf between availability of trained medical doctors and the legion of persons seeking for medical attention.
Fukka said the medical doctors are to man the healthcare delivery centres in the eleven wards of the local government area and bring their expertise in the treatment of persons who seek medical attention at such clinics.
The chairman disclosed that the council would pay a monthly stipend of N30,000 to each of the eleven medical doctors who are now on the pay roll of the council.
He disclosed that the council has also purchased assorted drugs worth one million naira and sold them out to members of the public within the council at subsidized cost.
The move according to him was to make drugs available and at affordable prices to citizens within the council.
Speaking on the activities of the administration, the chairman revealed that 1,000 youth and women selected from the different wards of the council were trained on different vocational skills for job to empower the beneficiaries to be self reliant and be productive to the society.
He said the council also paid for the training of 100 other youths for computer literacy programme at a reputable computer training institute in the state capital while 150 final year secondary school students were trained on extra moral lessons to prepare them for their final school certificate examinations.
The council according to the chairman had earlier purchased four utility Hillux Vans and donated them to vigilante groups within the council who are helping out in providing security to lives and property of citizens within the council.
