Yobe: CCDRN, Shell, Distribute Starter Kits To 3,400 Vulnerable Communities

Yobe State Government has commended Centre for Community Development and Research Network (CCDRN) in partnership with Shell Petroleum Company for distributing starter kits to 3,400 vulnerable persons in Gujba and Jakusko local government areas of Yobe State under its Livelihood Improvement Programme.

The State’s Deputy Governor, Idi Barde Gubana represented by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Dr. Mairo Amshi made the commendation while handing over the items to the beneficiaries in Gujba town of Gujba local government area.

Amshi explained, Yobe State is at the recovery stage after years of Boko Haram insurgency, saying such a gesture would complement the efforts of the state government in ensuring all individuals affected by the conflict are resettled in a dignified manner.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Regional Programme Manager, CCDRN Damaturu, Mister Ibrahim Muhammad revealed, a total of six wards from the two local government areas of Gujba and Jakusko will benefit from the grand distribution of livestock, income-generating activity starter kits, and VSLA working documents (passbooks).

“On this meritorious event, we gathered here to witness the grand distribution of livestock, income-generating activity starter kits, and VSLA working documents (passbooks) to 3,400 beneficiaries in the Gujba and Jakusko local government area, as part of our livelihood Improvement Programme”.

“In collaboration with the Shell Petroleum Development Company Joint Venture (SPDC-JV), we are actively engaging our people to elevate their livelihood standards by creating sustainable jobs and employment opportunities.  Our focus lies in the domain of Income Generation Activities, Crops and Livestock production within three targeted wards in Jakusko LGA and another three wards in Gujba LGA of Yobe State” he said.

The representative of the District Head of Gujba, Wakil Modu who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries thanked the CCDRN, Shell and the Yobe state government for supporting their vulnerable communities.

He also urged other organizations to emulate CCDRN so as to reduce the number of poor communities.
