The Commissioner, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Kaduna State, Jafar Sani has commended the Maimuna Zakari-led Kaduna Environmental Protection Authority (KEPA) for coming out with policies and activities which were designed to protect the environment of the state.
The Commissioner spoke to journalists shortly after inspecting exhibitions by companies involved in conservation of environmental resources on June 6, 2022 at the Farida Hall, Kaduna State University, at an event was put together by KEPA.
While fielding questions from newsmen, Alhaji Sani said,
“from what I have seen here today, I know that in the near future, plastic wastes, coal and other things which constitute environmental waste would no longer constitute a menace to our streets .
” I have seen companies here today that are into recycling of waste products and I have seen organisations that are dedicated to making sure waste disposal in Kaduna State is no longer an issue I am indeed happy with Hajia Maimuna Zakari and her team for coming out with such brilliant conception.
Mr. Sani further pledged that his Ministry would partner with KEPA and other companies in the areas of waste management and disposal
“I want to assure you that my ministry would partner with KEPA and other organisations to see that the environment is protected and and environmental resources are conserved.
“As part of the ministry’s contribution towards conservation of Natural and Environmental,the Commissioner revealed that concretes measures have been taken to make sure that endangered species of animals and trees are protected,” he assured.
He further revealed that the ministry would ensure that a minimum of four trees are planted if one is cut down.
Speaking to journalists, the Managing Director KEPA, Maimuna Zakari unveiled the steps taken by her organisation in combating solid waste in the state.
“The state has been divided into three areas and each area has a waste disposal and management organisation that would come and pick up refuse produced by the communities therein.
“Receipts would be issued to individuals to show that they have paid for waste disposal.
“Furthermore, we are working on increasing dumpsites in different areas and communities in the state in order for us to effectively manage solid waste,” she added.
