A cab driver survived unhurt from a badly damaged vehicle as a result of a falling tree caused by an early morning rainstorm.

When our correspondent visited the scene of the incident beside Lagos Street Roundabout along the ever busy Ahmadu Bello Way, Kaduna, rescue efforts were still ongoing to extricate the entrapped Sharon Volkswagen wagon beneath branches of the giant tree.

The escapee cab driver, Aliyu Muhammad disclosed to our correspondent how he cheated death in the pre-dawn rainstorm that would have  claimed his life, but  the mercies of God saved him, whom he noted, limited the damage of the storm to the vehicle alone.

“I was sitting at about 4:22am inside this vehicle which I use as a cab to transport passengers from Kaduna to Kano to feed my family.

“I was suddenly startled by the velocity of the wind which was very strong and was seriously vibrating branches of the tree beneath which the vehicle was parked.

“The wind escalated to an extend that all the immediate surroundings became very dark and visibility became very poor as a result of the early morning wind that was occasioned by heavy downpours.

“Suddenly the tree fell on the vehicle while I was still in just before I could move the vehicle from the danger spot.

“The weight of the tree caved into the vehicle, damaging the windshield, doors and other vital parts.

“The vehicle is not mine, it is owned by my neighbor who lost his sight as a result of an ailment.

“I am in shock, but I will still give glory to God for saving my life even though a vehicle that is not mine was badly damaged, “he lamented.
