Idanre Indigenes who are members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) have said the unanimous agreement reached at a peace meeting held to further stem the tide of rising violence in Idanre, in the Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State, must be honored.

The peace meeting came on the heels of an assassination attempt on the life of Hon. Tajudeen Adefisoye, a member representing Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency.

The attack on the lawmaker last week, occasioned nervous apprehension in the ancient town of Idanre as supporters of the APC and PDP had engaged in blame game, this was even as the ruling party alleged that the PDP was responsible for the attack.

However, it was learnt that there was a  peace meeting a few days ago at the instance of the paramount ruler of Idanre, the Owa of ldanre, Oba Fredrick Aroloye, and the duo parties unanimously agreed on some decisions which would restore peace to the milieu.

But the APC Members, in a statement yesterday issued by one Adeboyeku Babatunde, Director of Media Campaign Idanre LGA, noted that the peace pact must be respected.

He said, “One of the major decisions reached at the meeting between the revered Idanre monarch and political gladiators was an agreement that parties should immediately reign-in their supporters while all arrested supporters of APC and PDP should be released.

“It was on the strength of this peace agreement that Olanrewaju,

popularly known as ‘Engineer’ who attempted to kill Hon. Tajudeen Adefisoye was released by the police.

“It should however be noted that APC members in Idanre are peace loving people that regularly preach against political violence. True to this stance, our party will continue to preach and advocate issues based politicking rather than political violence.

“In spite of our abhorrence of political violence, we nonetheless believe that terms of the Idanre peace agreement should be respected in the case of Sunday Akinmolayan ‘Wulowubo’. After all ,

the release of Olanrewaju popularly known as ‘Engineer’ was ordered on the strength of same Idanre peace agreement.

“In accordance with the terms of the  peace agreement and in the

overall interest of lasting peace in the town, we appeal to the Ondo State Commissioner of Police to help fulfill the terms of Idanre peace agreement by ordering the

release of Sunday Akinmolayan ‘Wulowubo’.

“While we will not glory in political violence and impunity by any individual ; but we stand to be corrected that a daring attempt to kill member of the House of Representatives is the height of political desperation.

“Even with the grave nature of the assassination attempt on the life of Hon. Adefisoye, the perpetrator, Olanrewaju was arrested and later eleased in the spirit of Idanre peace agreement. It would be pretty fair and just if the Police Commissioner could also extend spirit of the peace pact to the other concerned party by ordering the release of  Sunday Akinmolayan ‘Wulowubo’.
