The Oladigbolu Royal Family in Oyo town on Friday, vowed to resist any attempt to jettison Ifa divination in the selection of a new Alaafin into the Oyo monarch vacant stool.
Oladigbolu family in a statement signed by Prince Akinade Oladigbolu, on behalf of the family, charged the Oyo kingmakers to allow Oracle to select who will become the next Alaafin of Oyo.
In the statement, the Oladigbolu said any other process aside from ifa divination will be unacceptable to them, hence the need for the kingmakers to go back to the drawing board in selecting the new monarch among all those jostling for the vacant stool
” It is important we do it right now because any wrong steps taken in the selection process will have a negative effect in the future and posterity will not forgive anybody that cut corners against the will of the people and God for Oyo town”, it said
Oladigbolu family stated that right from the begining, all princes were told that Ifa consultation would be employed to select the new king, which they all agreed, adding that the position of Alaafin of Oyo is an important seat in Yorubaland which Yoruba’s all over the world should rise up and joined the battle against imposition, describing imposition as a taboo.
Commending Gov Seyi Makinde for “the way and manner he is handling the matter and not allowing some self centred group to mislead and pushed him to take wrong steps”, the family warned against any tactics to subvert the selection process
” We are also using this opportunity to warn those promoting lies against the governor and accusing him of employing delay tactics to subvert the will of the kingmakers to desists and join the path of truth and stop anti – peoples move”
According to the family, ” as today, none of the names of aspirants jostling for the position of Alaafin has been submitted by the Oyomesi as the crowned prince to the government”,
It stressed, “But from our own side, Akeem Gbadegesin Oladigbolu is our choice because we believe that he is capable of building on the legacies of our forebears and transform Oyo into a modern city.”
