Kaduna State government’s Urban Renewal Project and the drive of Governor Nasir el-Rufai’s resolve and determination to actualize the development of the state and make it attract investments both local and international has been described as a step in the right direction.
Lauding the efforts of the governor in making the state a model for others to emulate in terms of infrastructural development according to international standards, Yakub Yunus Yakub, a Geographical Information System Analyst (GIS expert) believes that the efforts of the state governor is in line with the original master plan of the state and shows government’s determination of attracting investors to the state to boost its Internally generated revenue (IGR)
According to him in an interview with New Nigerian at Monday, “every right thinking leader should think outside the box if he/she must bring development and help the masses enjoy the fruit of good governance.”
Yakub is of the view that if the citizens of the state cooperate with the government, these developments will help in job creations and reduce unemployment in the state.
“As much as I commend the government, this policy to some people seems unfavorable, but, I also know change needs sacrifices from both the government and the people, after all, nothing good comers easy, it comes with pains, but the end always yields good fruits.”
He also wants government to compensate those affected by the on-going demolitions in the name of the projects and returning to the original Master Plan because to many it has not been friendly.
“Imagine owning a property and losing it because of these projects and not been compensated it will not be totally acceptable to owners of these properties.”
Though he feels the projects will bring modern development, the future generation will be happy for it because of the sacrifices made in its actualization.
On the issues of insecurity, kidnapping and terrorism the country is currently experiencing.
The GIS expert of 15- years experience, wants government both states and federal to tackle the problem of poverty by looking at ways of alleviating the sufferings of the masses through it economic policies.
“If government fight poverty and reduce unemployment through its economic policies it will reduce all forms of criminality in the country,” he stated
