UNN SSANU Gets  New  Exco, As Chairman Pledges To  Make Workers Welfare Priority

The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria  Universities (SSANU), University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) chapter has elected Dr, Linus Akata to pilot  affairs of the association for the next four, just as he has promised to make welfare utmost priority.

Akata, who took over from  Paul Erua was elected at the weekend, during the association’s quadrennial congress held at Margret Ekpo refectory of UNN.

Erua, had during his valedictory remarks, outlined his milestone achievements after 11 years of his administration.

Our correspondent writes that the quadrennial congress, was conducted by the national Vice President south- East  SSANU  Comrade Ken Njoku alongside  other executive of the national body.

The exercise was held under conducive atmosphere devoid of  dissenting voices as  the seven-man electoral body of association of both campuses of the university, headed by Comrade Martin Arumede  turned out results of the election, which has never been witnessed in the annals of SSANU UNN branch.

 Dr. Akata who was the immediate past treasurer of the association for 11 years in his acceptance speech assured members that he won’t take the confidence reposed in him for granted.

The former chairman, Dr. Erua served for eleven years, three years as caretaker chairman, four years each as first and second tenure as chairman.

Akata, expressed appreciation to members for finding him worthy to pilot the affairs of the association for the next four year

He said, “I am humbled and excited on the mandate reposed on me by the association to pilot its affairs for the next four years”.

The new Chairman equally thanked  the  SSANU team from the national secretariat led by Comr. Ken Njoku, national vice-president south east who supervise the election for doing a thorough job.

The National Vice President South-East, Comrade Njoku in his speech applauded SSANU-UNN for the mature manner they  conducted themselves during and after the election, advising them to always  be their brothers keeper in matters of the association.

“Report of the election Committee chaired by Comrade Martin Arumede showed that only one candidate picked  form of each elective positions, which includes Chairman, vice-chairman, secretary, treasurer, financial secretary among others.

“I commend the unity and maturity of UNN-SSANU that made the assignment easier  for SSANU national secretariat “and urged other branches  of SSANU in the country to emulate UNN chapter.

Speaking earlier,  the immediate past chairman Comrade Erua thanked members of SSANU – UNN for the corporation and support given to his 11 years administration.

Comrade Erua enumerated his milestone achievements to include; hosting of SSANU national delegates conference, complete payments of pharmacy shop  building and filling station on the basis of built operate transfer (BoT).

Ensured  the review of scheme of service for non-teaching staff in UNN, purchase of SUV Highlander jeep for UNN-SSANU and facilitated  payment of N30,000 monthly hazard allowance to over 500 members, among others.

The new exco of SSANU-UNN include, Dr. Linus Akata, Chairman,

Samuel Okoh Vice CKC Chairman,  Ifeanyichukwu Ozioko, Secretary, Chukwuma Nwagwu treasurer and Ejike Egwuagu  Financial Secretary.

Others include, Charles Akan, public relations officer, Mrs. Blessing Obi assistant secretary, James Nwachukwu, Ex- Officio,  Friday Nweke Trustee and Mrs Mercy Ilechukwu, woman coordinator.
