The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin (Unilorin), Prof. Wahab Egbewole, has restated his dedication to fostering a conducive environment for the university to realize its ‘Smart Agenda’.

 Egbewole made these remarks during the annual Media Iftar with journalists in Ilorin, Kwara State, over the weekend.

He emphasized the importance of creating favourable conditions for students’ learning, staff members’ professional activities, and the overall achievement of the university’s smart agenda. 

Egbewole recalled his earlier commitment during his inauguration, expressing  strong belief in the university’s human capital potentials and the collective ability to elevate it to the forefront of African academia by being SMART.

He expressed confidence in the ongoing progress of the university and assured that disruptions would be avoided, particularly highlighting the smooth progression of the current semester examinations without disturbances to the academic calendar.

Furthermore, the Vice Chancellor highlighted various achievements of the university, including infrastructural developments and improvements in student welfare. 

He noted the completion of projects such as the Chemical Engineering facility and the construction of a new car park, alongside renovations and the construction of new hostels.

Egbewole also underscored the importance of innovation and global competitiveness, emphasizing the need for the University to adopt distinct approaches to become a significant player on the global stage. 

He commended the university unions for their responsible conduct during the recent NASU and SSANU warning strike, crediting their commitment to ensuring minimal disruption to student activities.

In conclusion, he proudly declared the University of Ilorin as the foremost institution in Nigeria today.
