In spite of the heavy rainfall on Wednesday at Udung Uko Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, the inauguration of Young Progressives Party (YPP) chapter office was witnessed by a large turn out of who’s who from the area.

Among them was Engr. Kininyi Edubio, the son-in-law to Senator Akon Eyakenyi, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship running mate in the state.

Engr. Edubio, a former PDP aspirant for 2023 Oron Federal House of Representatives, who also contested twice for chairmanship in the area, was among the 1,327 defectors harvested by YPP from other parties, while unveiling its chapter office.

While commissioning the party secretariat, YPP state chairman, Apostle Nyeneime Andy, appreciated the people of the area who included the youth,  women and the elderly for the warm reception accorded the party despite the heavy downpour.

He urged them to take money from vote buyers, if offered, but stand with YPP till all the candidates assume respective political offices in 2023.

“Let me specially thank you for waiting for us even in the rain. May Almighty bless all of you in Jesus name. I can assure you come 2023, all the political offices from the Governor to House of Assembly will be YPP. The only platform to bring the government to the people is YPP,” Andy added.

Apostle Andy also urged the new entrants to embrace the symbol of the party with pride, since “everyone eats vegetables for nourishment”.

He congratulated the people for standing by YPP governorship candidate, Senator Bassey Albert Akpan aka OBA, assuring that his government will be the government of the people, adding that OBA as the incoming governor, would solve the problems of the masses, given the enormous financial resources the state has.

In his welcome address, the chapter chairman, Mr Etim Jack thanked God for making it possible to have the political heavyweights, such as the gubernatorial candidate of the party, Senator Bassey Albert Akpan, his running mate, AIG Asuquo Amba (rtd) in Udung Uko during the party secretariat’s inauguration.

Dr. Nse Okpono, a former PDP stalwart, in his goodwill message, welcomed the team and assured that OBA as governor, and his deputy, will serve the state well, based on the needs of the people.

Engr. Edubio Kininyi, son-in-law to Sen. Akon Eyakenyi, who spoke on behalf of all the decampees, said he has been a politician for decades, but has never been rewarded despite his hardwork in his former party, PDP.

Using the analogy of “baboon dey work, monkey dey chop”, Engr. Edubio said that the only reward in PDP is to fight those who work hard to put the government in place.

He urged the people to support the YPP and all the candidates assuring that  their hard work and sincerity and support will pay off.

In a closing remark, Dr. Asuquo Anwana, expressed appreciation to OBA for making it possible for YPP to campaign for the 2023 elections because of his past and present record of service.
