Supreme Court  Affirms Oborevworii”s Election Victory, Dismisses Omo-Agege’s Appeal

The Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has commended the judiciary for the affirmation of his victory, adding that it is time to fully serve the people of Delta State.

Oborevworii, made the declaration in a terse statement on his X handle on Friday morning, also appreciated his legal team, supporters and all Deltans.

In his words, “To the glory of God, the Supreme Court today affirmed me as the duly elected Governor of Delta State.

“I commend the judiciary, my legal team, supporters and all Deltans. Truly, The judiciary is the last hope of ordinary Nigerians.

“The legal battles are over, it is now time to continue to serve fully the people of Delta state in line with my God given vision, the MORE agenda.

“And l hereby invites all to join hands with me to move our state forward. To God alone be the glory!”

The Supreme Court, on Friday, affirmed the election victory of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State.

After the judgement, excitement erupted simultaneously in different parts of Delta State following the affirmation of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori as the Governor of Delta State by the Supreme Court on Friday morning.

The jubilation came Immediately the news filtered in that the supreme court has affirmed Governor Oborevwori as the Governor of Delta State, staff and Deltans who were waiting anxiously for the judgement went into jubilation in the state 

Meanwhile, in his reaction to the Supreme Court judgement, the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, CON.

On his verified Facebook account, said, “following today’s historic judgement by the Supreme Court that has declared Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as the duly-elected leader of our great state, Delta, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, our Deputy Governor, H.E. Monday Onyeme and our esteemed party, the PDP.

“This judgement truly underscores the trust and confidence that the people of our state, the Big Heart of our nation, have placed in the leadership of Governor Oborevwori’s administration and our great party.

“As we celebrate this significance achievement, we must see this as a renewed commitment to work collaboratively for all Deltans by focusing on our common goals, pushing to manifest our shared dreams and aspirations, and working to find solutions to the problems that confront our great state and its remarkable people.”

On his part also, former Governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, CON, said, “congratulations to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his family, congratulations to all Deltans and to all well wishers across the world.

“These cases have been quite trying, but for those that have passed through this route, propaganda was a big issue.

“We thank God for the overall result; it is now time to settle down fully and deliver the dividends of democracy.”

Also, former Deputy Governor of the state, Chief Sir Benjamin Elue, who also, reacted to the Supreme Court judgement said, “this is heartwarming; congratulations our dear Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and our Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA; congratulations to all Deltans; we give all the glory to God.

“Now that the battle is over, our Governor can now focus on the task of advancing Delta State; Deltans should expect more development in all spheres to the glory of God Almighty.”

Deltans who reacted to the victory include Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Godwill Obielum, the immediate past Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, the member representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, PDP Chieftains, Elder Isioma Okonta, Dr. (Pharm.) Nelson Ejakpovi and Chief Peter Idion.

Chief Obielum said, “We thank God for the victory at the Supreme Court, we give glory to God because what we are witnessing is victory upon victory right from the beginning.

“When God has ordained someone for a position, nobody can take it from such a person; this is victory for all Deltans and we give glory to God Almighty.

“In short, I lack words to fully express myself, this is good for democracy and we all will reap the benefits as Deltans.”

In his reactions, Elumelu said, “the decision of the Supreme Court judges is wonderful and awesome; this clearly shows that the will of the people must prevail in democracy.

“Now that all democratic windows have been exploited, it is time for everybody to come together as one family and join hands with our Governor for us to collectively, develop Delta State.

“I congratulate our Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori , all Deltans and lovers of democracy.”

They added that Oborevwori, “can now focus squarely on delivering the M.O.R.E Agenda, especially to the coastal communities.”

In a unanimous decision, a five-member panel of the apex court, Friday January 19, dismissed an appeal the All Progressives Congress, APC, and its candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, filed to challenge the outcome of the governorship election, held in the state on March 18, 2023.

Edema in a swift reaction, “The Judgement of the Apex Court, has once again re-affirmed the mandate that Deltans overwhelmingly gave His Excellency on the March 2023 Gubernatorial elections. This victory today is for all Deltans.

“With this victory our beloved Governor can now focus squarely on delivering the more agenda especially to the coastal communities of Delta State, which have not been given the attention it deserves for being the goose that lays the golden egg.

“We will work closely with the Delta State Government in ensuring that our Coastal Communities, particularly those that are oil producing get the necessary attention, especially with the biting effect of inflation and high cost of PMS (as a result of the removal of subsidy).”

Also, a  chairmanship aspirant for Warri South Local Government Area  in the forthcoming Delta State Local Government  election,  Comr. L. Monoyo Edon, congratulated Governor Sheriff Oborevwori,  on his victory at the Supreme Court.                   

Comrade Edon, in a statement, said that Governor Oborevwori, swept 21 out of the 25 Local Government Areas in the gubernatorial election held March 2023.

He stated this after the judgement, Edon, who has been an avid advocate of the M.O.R.E Agenda in Delta State said that the victory did not come as a surprise, ” because  the Governor is very popular with Deltans.

“Indeed, Governor Oborevwori’s Supreme Court Victory is testament to the fact that Deltans are happy with his popular M.O.R.E Agenda. He won with a landslide. That shows you how popular he is with Deltans. We did flinch for one second through the tortuous legal battles, which has now culminated in this victory.”

The Media Assistant to both former Governors ( Dr.) Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan,  and Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, appealed to Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege and other members of  the opposition to embrace the M.O.R.E Agenda, as the Governor channels all his focus towards doling out the dividends of democracy to all Deltans.”

The Special Adviser to the governor of Delta State on Project Monitoring/Audit Dr. Goodnews Agbi has congratulated the governor of Delta State Elder Sheriff Francis Oborevwori on his Supreme Court Victory, describing it as victory for all Deltans.
