Oyo state Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) , Comrade Waheed Olojede on Wednesday described the ‘no work, no pay’ order to the civil servants in the state over  the on going 3 day warning strike embarked upon by the  workers as an “empty threat”.

Comrade Olojode stated this in Ibadan while reacting to the go back to work order slammed on the striking workers by the state government in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) made available to newsmen .

According to the Oyo state NLC, it was unfortunate that Oyo state “is only being economical with the truth ” with what led to the warning strike, saying,  throughout the 7-day notice served on the government, the trade unions in the state  never received any response even after the close of working hours on Tuesday.

” For the purpose of setting the records straight, the unions had last week Wednesday, issued a 7-day strike notice to the government which expired on Tuesday . They never responded even after the last day, so on the close of work on Tuesday the union called a congress of all the workers , where it declared a three day warning strike , commencing on Wednesday” he said.

Comrade Olojede added that “it was on Wednesday that the union received a letter from the government , inviting us to a meeting by 4pm. But, we explained through a letter to the government , that since not all the unions’ leaders live within Ibadan , the meeting slated for 4pm will be impossible. And we suggested that the should come up by 12 noon on Thursday”.
