Youth from the 19 Northern states comprising of over 10 groups under the aegis of Coalition of Joint Northern Youths (CJNY), have enjoined the Senator representing Bauchi Central, Isah Misau to be mindful of his attacks on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), lbrahim ldris.
The youth groups said the call has become imperative as the Senator’s incessant attacks were distracting the IGP from performing his constitutional duties.
A statement by the CJNY, signed by the coordinators, Nuhu Sani Lere and Gambo Ibrahim noted that, “As youth leaders from the north, we are pained by the controversy generated by the exchange of words by those we look up to as our leaders.
“We are therefore asking Senator Misau whose voice seems to be the loudest in the controversy to see reason and sheath his sword.
“This has seriously become imperative owning to the fact that these two leaders of the north hold offices that make youths around the country to look up to them for guidance and inspiration.”
The youths lead by Arewa Youth Forum, Northern Professional Front, Arewa Youth Awareness Forum and The Legacy Monitors, Northern Chapter among others said, “The way and manner the Senator is bringing down the person of the Inspector General of Police without re cause to his office and the good work he is doing for the country is Inimical to the north and the country as a whole.”
According to them, “We are calling on Senator Misau who we believe is a gentleman to behave like a leader that he is and settle any difference between him and the IGP amicably.”
Part of the statement also said, “The job of the Inspector General of Police is very important and sensitive especially in the midst of the ongoing security challenges in the country and we believe he needs full concentration to deliver.
“He does not need any distraction at this point in time. As any close watcher of the security situation in the country will see the effort of the IGP and his men in spite of the environment in which they operate.
“We all are aware that the country is seriously under policed, and there is need for more hands to assist the IGP to do his job better. Even with that he has recorded so many successes all over the country especially along Abuja – Kaduna highway that was hitherto taken over by kidnapper, now travelers can now heave a sigh of relief.
“The IGP has also worked assiduously to reduce crime across the country and needs the support of all to continue in the same stead.
“Ordinarily, the IGP should count on people like Senator Misau who is now in the senate but was in the police force before to assist him in convincing other Senators for a better deal for the police in undertaking its job of protecting Nigerians which the IGP has been undertaking and improving the security situation in the country.
“Senator Misau as a law maker and former police officer has what it takes to lobby his colleagues in bringing about enabling legal framework for the police to discharge their duty more favorably. This is what we expect him to be doing and not busy casting aspersions on the IGP. We say enough is enough.
“The Coalition therefore wants the two gentlemen and all other well meaning Nigerians to come together synergize and with President Muhammadu Buhari for the upliftment and Nigeria as a whole.”
