Standard Gauge Rail Project: Customs Scanner Centre Marked For Demolition

The building housing Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) Scanner Centre has to be demolished to give way to the ongoing Standard Gauge Railway line construction at Apapa seaport in Lagos.

Minister of State for Transportation, Senator Gbemisola Saraki, announced the development when she inspected the rail construction project site on Monday.

She declared, “I have been able to see the situation and upon my return to Abuja, the ministry will meet with the management of Nigerian Customs Service and the Nigerian Ports Authority.”

Saraki stated that before the week ends there will be solution to improve the construction of the rail tracks at the port.

She stressed that the project section under inspection will begin operations in the coming two weeks.

According to the minister, the demolition of the scanner centre will be carried out carefully for safety purposes.

The minister of state for transportation was accompanied on the inspection by Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) of Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Engr. Fidet Okhiria.
