SSANU/ABU Inaugurates Branch Women Committee Coordinator

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria branch has inaugurated its branch’s Women Coordinator, Hajiya Hauwa Yahaya.

Speaking while inaugurating the coordinator, a former National Women Leader of the association, Comrade Hadiza Abubakar charged members to remain a united family.

Comrade Hadiza said, success doesn’t come easy, but with full support and commitment of  everyone, the Women Committee of SSANU/ABU will conquer.

According to her, what has happened before, has now become history and SSANU in ABU has no faction, it is now a one family affair.

She commended the doggedness of Women Committee members of SSANU/ABU in accepting to be one.

The former National Women Leader challenged women in ABU to prepare to take over the leadership of the branch from men as it happened in University of Lagos recently.

In his remarks, the ABU branch Chairman, Comrade Muhammad Yunusa charged women to come together and work  for a better future.

He said women hold a very strategic role in  nation building  both economically and otherwise.

In her inaugural speech, the Branch Women Coordinator, Hajiya Hauwa Yahaya said she would empower members in capacity building  and other activities.

She said when a woman  is empowered, it allows her to have control and benefit from resources, assets and incomes.

” It also it helps her with the ability to manage risks and improve in their wellbeing as well as boosting women status through literacy, education and awareness creation,” she said.

Comrade Hauwa assured members that she will try and resolve the issues of marginalization, indictment and identify the root causes  of oppression and to know how to address them.

She said Women Committee in the university will be a platform for reaching out to all members by disseminating information and rubbing of minds at all times.
