A one time Welfare Secretary and immediate Past Chairman of the Model Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, Sir Ben Churchill Aniekwena has expressed deep shock over the demise of a colleague, Barrister Daniel Elobuike Okum ESQ.

He expressed this in a statement personally signed by him, made available on Friday May 6, 2022.

“Dan Okum as we fondly called him was a brother and a bosom friend who I will never forget.

“He was cool, calm, outspoken and a perfect gentleman. Indeed, the Bar has lost an amiable personality and colleague whose character is worthy of emulation,” he said.

While recalling how he met his late colleague, he said, “I came in contact with him way back in 2005 through another bosom friend and an Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) classmate of mine, His Worship, Chuks Ubani Esq. (A former Presiding Chief Magistrate of the FCT and now Director of Enforcement FCT High Court of Justice), who was as at that time, a Counsel in Country Chambers where Dan Okum was the head.

“While heading the Country Chambers, his hardwork, diligence and dedication to his duties did not go unnoticed.

“For I knew It was Dan Okum’s hard work and simplicity that prompted his Principal , Alhaji Hamisu Yusuf Mairago Esq., to nominate and have him appointed to work for Kano Electric Distribution Company, where he was detailed to head the Legal department.

“To the best of my knowledge and candid observation, his services with Kano Electric paved way for the much needed peace and sanity required by the Company and their franchise with its customers relationship.

“In all he did, his ingenuity and intelligence would always be made manifest.

“Honestly, we all owe it as an added spiritual/corporal work of mercy and welfare obligation to accord him a befitting burial and to mourn him and I must mourn him today.

“Well, Dan has gone for now to be with his Maker till we all assemble on the last day. While waiting for his final committal to Mother earth, let his gentle soul find complete rest in Christ’s resurrection.

“To his amiable wife and colleague, Barr Mrs. Mary Ololade Okum and his beautiful children left behind, it’s well with all of you and his soul.”

“May I just finally say for now,
‘Re quiscat in pacem, Daniel!’.
