A former Senator who represented Southern Kaduna Senatorial zone in the Upper Chamber, Caleb Zagi has won the Kaduna governorship ticket of African Democratic Party (ADC).
He polled 185 votes to defeat his opponent, Abdulmumini Dada Umar who polled 32 votes.
The primary election held on Saturday in Kaduna in a peaceful and friendly atmosphere, saw delegates relaxed and in a comfortable mood.
The results were announced by the Returning Officer for the election, Alh Tijani Ahmed.
Alhaji Ahmed said, a total of 300 delegates were accredited, total votes cast 250, valid votes, 221, while invalid votes were 39.
Meanwhile, Senator Zagi in his acceptance speech shortly after he was declared winner, expressed gratitude to the delegates for the confidence reposed on him and promised to work with every member of ADC to ensure victory of the party in the 2023 general elections.
” I am deeply humbled and delighted to stand before this distinguished gathering of our party delegates, top officials and supporters to deliver this acceptance speech.
“I promise to build a new road map for the people of Kaduna State to address the challenges bedeviling the state and forge unity among the people of Kaduna.
“I have been in the political arena for long, a House of Representatives member and Senator, so I will bring my knowledge based experience in creating the much desired state that will be home to all.”
He commended his opponent for believing in the democratic process, stressing that he will reach out to them to extend the hand of fellowship.
Similarly, Alhaji Abdulmumini Dada Umar said he accepted the results of the election in good faith and promised to work with the governorship candidate for the success of the party
” As my contribution, I am transferring the sum of ten million Naira to Senator Caleb’s account as my contribution to his campaign,” he said.
