Security Operatives Apprehend Gang Of Kidnappers In Jigawa

Operatives of the Jigawa State Police Command have succeeded in apprehending four notorious gangs who specialize in abduction in various places in the state.

A statement issued and signed by the command’s spokesman, ASP Lawal Shi’isu Ahmad, said this follows public outcry on high profile  abduction cases.

Part of it reads: “Following the increase in the cases of abduction in the state, the operatives of the Jigawa State Police Command  deem it fit to swing into action which led to the arrest of four duspects.

“This includes  40 years ‘m’ of Gidan Maza Fulani settlement Garki LGA. who made a confessional statement that him and nine other gang members were involved in the abduction of one Igbo and one Hausa man.

The abducted victims remained in their custody for 10 days. Later released them after collecting ransoms. Out of the money, he received the sum of sixty thousand Naira (60, 000. 00) as his own share. He stated that among them were carrying rifles with other dangerous weapons during  operations.

The second  suspect also made a confessional statement that he  started with the stealing of domestic animals like, chicken, goats sheep and cattle for the past twenty years. 

He said he upgraded to armed robbery and kidnaping three years ago. 

According to him, he  participated in robbery at Kwanar Dangora, Dogon Jeji in Kano State together with other five other gang members, two among them   carryied AK-47 riffles.

He further revealed that in the same syndicate they were able to storm the house of one Alhaji Muazu in Jahun LGA and abducted one of his daughters, after which they received the sum of twenty million Naira as ransom and he was given the sum of three hundred and fifty thousand Naira 350,000.00). 

He also stated that, he was involved in the abduction of one girl in Gujungu town and they received three million Naira. 

In the case of the kidnapping of Haruna Oji’s mother, he said he did not participate, but was aware of the operation.

On Aujara  robbery,  he explained that one shoe maker led them to the house of one Alhaji Mu’azu and they robbed him of the sum of seven million Naira. 

Furthermore he revealed that he participated fully in the abduction of the wife of the state assembly member  representing Miga LG, where he received three hundred and fifty thousand Naira  as his  share.

 Lastly he said he participated in the kidnaping of one Alhaji Danladi Zango in which the  victim was kept in his house, he personally received the sum of fifty nine thousand Naira as his own share after collecting the sum of three million Naira  as ransom.

The suspect confirmed to the police that he owns a personal AK-47 rifle which he bought at the cost of three hundred thousand Naira  from one resident of Bunkure LG Kano State. 

He said that their team buys ammunition from one woman in Makole Town also in Kano State.

The third suspect,  a wife to the second suspect, stated that about three weeks ago at night, one Alhaji Danladi was brought into their house. 

She said she cooked food for the  victim and  was given the sum of five thousand Naira  after they  collected ransom. 

She explained that her husband collected her Hijab, dressed like a woman  and took Alhaji Danladi to the main road on his motorcycle. 

Investigations also led to the arrest of the fourth suspect of Gora Arewa Chai-Chai town in Ringim LGA, who  confessed that he has been receiving stolen motorcycles and sells them at Gujungu and Shuwarin Market. 

He said he sells  the stolen motorcycles to the first and second suspect, adding that he goes to their houses to collect his money.

On the strength of that, the Commissioner of Police Jigawa State Command, CP Aliyu Sale Tafida commended the efforts of the officers and men, calling on the good people of Jigawa to continue giving credible information regarding any person or group of persons with suspicious character around their neighborhoods to the Police for prompt action.
