The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation has appointed Alhaji Batako Umar Lapai as a member of its Finance/Marketing Committee.
His appointment was contained in a letter signed by the President Rugby Football Federation, Dr. Ademola Olabisi Are, dated May 5, 2022.
“I write to congratulate you on behalf of the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation on your deserved nomination by the Board as Member, FINANCE/MARKETING COMMITTEE.
“Your nomination is based on your pedigree and wealth of experience
in human capacity building, most importantly in the area of sports.
We hope you will bring your experience into play in taking the game of Rugby in Nigeria to greater heights.
“May I take this opportunity to wish you well and once again
congratulate you.
“Please accept my warm sporting regards,’ the letter said.
Our correspondent gathered that the appointment is aimed at making rugby not just a popular sport in the country, but one that can become a money spinner.
Its President, Dr. Are is an experienced sports administrator, who retired last year as the Director Grassroots Sports Development, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Presidency, Abuja
Before then, he served as Zonal Coordinator at the North West Zone of the ministry, where his impact is still being felt in development of grassroots sports.
