Luck came the way of seven members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) reportedly kidnapped at the weekend as they have been rescued unhurt by operatives of the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps also known as So-Safe Corps.
The brave corps also succeeded in killing one of the kidnappers in a cross fire, while others escaped with serious gun shoot injuries.
Sadly however, the pastor of the church, whose identity could not be ascertained as the time of filing the report, was killed by the the bandits.
Our correspondent gathered that all the victims are members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Desires of Nations Parish, under Ogun Province 22, Abule-Ori in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area.
They were said to have been attacked during a vigil on Friday and been taking to an unknown destination before the swift intervention of the operatives of the Corps.
The Director of Information and Public Relations,So-Safe Corps Ogun State, ACC Moruf Yusuf made the disclosure on behalf of the State Commander, Dr. Soji Ganzallo in a release today.
According to the statement, “At about 12.00am on Saturday,1st. July, 2023, the special operation team of the Corps, Owode-Egba Zonal Command under ACC Jimoh Rasaki Omoniyi received a distress call that some of the members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Desires of Nations Parish, under Ogun Province 22, Abule-Ori in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area were attacked during a vigil, while seven (7) members of the church were kidnapped and the pastor killed”.
Ganzallo noted that the Officers of the Corps were charged to go after the suspected criminals and were instructed to ensure the victims are rescued unhurt. And the Officers swung into action immediately.
He further revealed that the efforts of the Corps yielded a positive result and the seven (7) victims were rescued unhurt while one of the kidnappers was killed and many of the suspects sustained serious injury during a fire exchange.
The So – safe Commander revealed that the joint team of the Nigeria Police and the So-Safe Corps are strategically trailing the fleeing suspected kidnappers to capture them alive.
Ganzallo hinted that the body of the deceased kidnapper had been deposited in the nearby morgue.
