The people of Nasarawa State have appealed to former gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections in the state, Mr David Ombugadu to recontest for the seat in 2027.

A caucus of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Karu LGA of the state made the appeal in a Caucus meeting presided over by Engineer Danlami Kaura in Monday, in Karu.

The caucus declared Ombugadu, a former two-term member of the House of Representatives as the “best candidate to lead the opposition party to landslide victory and also rescue the state from the maladministration” of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Come out again to contest for governorship”, they appealed to 45-year-old Ombugadu popularly known as ‘Mai Wanka’, assuring him of their total support and solidarity for landslide victory.

Ombugadu had contested twice in 2019 and 2023 but lost to the incumbent, Governor Abdullahi A. Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in what some analysts chronicled as “coup against the people of the state”.

Meanwhile, some key stakeholders of the opposition party have advised the party leadership to adhere to its gentleman arrangement and zone the ticket to Nasarawa West.

The stakeholders led by a former lawmaker warned that failure to adhere to the arrangement, would jeopardise the chances of the opposition party winning the “most sought after office”.

They had identified Rep. Gbefwi Gaza of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as the most ideal candidate to fly the flag of the party and concluded plans to reach out in order to lure him back to the party and prevail on him to contest for governorship in the best interest of the state.

Gaza who was elected twice to the House of Representatives on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) left the party in 2021 over internal wranglings.

Other candidates the stakeholders have also pencilled down for consideration is the immediate past Minister of Environment, Barrister Mohammed Hassan Abdullahi and former member of the House of Representatives, Architect Muhammad Jafar.
