The Federal Polytechnic in Bauchi has dismissed two of its staff, Adebusoye Michael Sunday and Abubakar Musa Baba for raping students of the institutions.

The Council of the Polytechnic similarly expelled 16 of its students for what it described as falsification of their ordinary diploma results to gain admission into the institution for HND studies.

Announcing the dismissal and the expelling of the students shortly after the conclusion of the council’s 98th regular meeting in Bauchi weekend, the Polytechnic Rector, Arc. Sanusi Waziri Gumau said 14 other students were also expelled for examination misconduct.

He explained that the issue of raping by the institution’s two staff came up on the 4th of August this year, upon which they were served with queries and subsequently a committee set up to further investigate the matter.

Rector Sanusi Gumau expressed delight that concrete evidences established by the committee against the institution’s two lecturers, Abubakar Baba and Adebusoye Sunday for sexually assaulting his student.

“We did that and after the committee submitted its report, the Senior Staff Appointment and Disciplinary Committee met, invited the suspects, cross examined and we made our recommendation to the council”, he said.

Arc. Sanusi Gumau however expressed dismay that the media severally mentioned the case of Abubakar Musa Baba while remaining silence on the case of Adebusoye Michael Sunday.

“But what surprised me most is only the name of Abubakar Musa Baba has been mentioned, the other one ‘Adebusoye Michael Sunday’ was silence in the media. I wouldn’t know what was the reason, what was the rationale behind it”.

The rector stated that while Abubakar Musa Baba was a lecturer in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Adebusoye Miochael Sunday was a lecturer at the Department of General Studies.

He revealed that both the two students who were raped have military background, one her father is a military officer, while the other raped has her sister on the ranking of the military.

According to the rector, the committee saddled with the responsibility of investigating the issues felt on the extent rules/laws of the institution which are applicable to all federal polytechnics in the country.
